IV Therapy

What is IV Therapy?

IV Therapy delivers medication and nutrients through a needle or catheter and is an alternative way of delivering what your body needs quickly, safely, and effectively. IV Therapy is often preferred because it allows for controlled dosing and allows important medications and nutrients to reach the bloodstream quickly to remedy the patient’s condition.

What conditions can be treated with IV Therapy?

Many conditions can be treated with IV Therapy such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, congestive heart failure, dehydration, immune deficiencies, infections that are unresponsive to oral antibiotics, and pain. At Cornforth Gynecology and Medspa, we treat the most common issues many women face when it comes to either pregnancy or simply their day-to-day health: Nausea, Feeling Sick, Dehydration, and Lack of Energy.

What specific IV’s are offered at Cornforth Gynecology and Medspa?

  1. Anti-Nausea – this IV delivers Zofran (medication used to block the action of chemicals in the body that can trigger nausea and vomiting) and Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) which may improve mood, may promote brain health, may prevent and treat anemia, may aid in treating symptoms of PMS, may help treat nausea during pregnancy, may promote eye health, and may help treat inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
  2. Immune Booster – this IV delivers Vitamin C, Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin D, and Vitamin B Complex, all of which are essential for a strong, and well-functioning immune system. These vitamins and minerals should be obtained in the proper quantity by our normal dietary habits, but this IV ensures that you have what you need to maximize your immunity to infections and diseases.
  3. Energy Booster & Rehydrate – this IV delivers Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin B12 (double dose), and Taurine (which is an amino acid that plays a major role in supporting cell hydration and electrolyte balance, proper digestion, central nervous system and eyes, and regulating immune system health and antioxidant function.

Will insurance cover the cost of IV Therapy?

Insurance may cover the cost of treatment depending on the condition that is diagnosed, but each patient would have to explore that option on their own. This type of treatment is typically a discretionary cost, which is not covered by insurance and is paid for out of pocket by the patient.

How quickly will I feel the impact of the IV Therapy?

You will feel the impact typically within 45 minutes to 3-4 hours after your treatment.

What would a typical treatment session involve?

A treatment session starts before you arrive for your appointment. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding items that can dehydrate you (such as excessive amounts of coffee, heavy exercise, salty foods, and donating blood) are important before beginning a session. Once you are cleared to begin the session, you will be situated comfortably in an exam room and your IV drip will be administered by one of our providers. Your session will last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour as dictated by the type of IV selected. Once your session is finished, you can drive yourself without any issues.

Are there any side effects to IV Therapy?

Typically, patients do not feel any side effects from the treatment. But if there was going to be a side effect, the most common would be an allergic reaction at the injection site, evidenced by itchiness. Other side effects could include a reaction to any of the ingredients in the IV being administered. Your provider will ensure that any known or suspected allergies are discussed before any treatment session begins.

Can I receive IV Therapy if I’m pregnant or planning to become pregnant?

Since our office specializes in women’s health, the products we provide are safe for anyone that is pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
